As if having a new baby wasn't enough, I decided to expand our family even further. My husband thinks I'm crazy and he wish I would shut up about our new pets. The nice part is, they don't take much up-keep and I only have to feed them twice a day. Ready to meet them?
Meet my new pet yeast.
I caught them a few days ago.
And I've been faithfully feeding them with flour.
The bubbles mean that they are growing!
And that yellow line means that they are eating! (Apparently it's alcohol that the yeast produces from fermentation)
If you are a bread person, you've probably figured out I'm making a bread starter. If you're not a bread person... I'm making a bread starter. One of my goals this year is to make all of our family's bread so we don't have to buy any. I've tried some "simple" recipes but they haven't turned out great, so I'm giving this sourdough bread starter a shot.
I thought it was going to be really hard to "capture" the yeast, but I had bubbles within a few hours. (Apparently Korea has good yeast). Today it started smelling a little sour, but I still have 5 more days to let it grow before I can use it. Hopefully it will still be alive by then and I can actually make some bread : )
Look for an update next week!
Oh, by the way, I got info about making starters from allrecipes.com.
