Sorry that I wasn't here all of last week! I was working on a big project that took literally all of my time. And now you can read about it!
So, if you don't know already, I'm crazy. Not really crazy, I just get it in my head to do all these crazy things and then I DO them.
This summer camp was no exception. The last day of camp is a craft/party/awards day. I really wanted my kids to have a crafting experience that they would remember. Here are some of the difficulties I had to take into consideration though: 1. It can't be too complicated because I can't communicate well with them, 2. It can't be dangerous, 3. It should only take about 40 minutes, 4. I can't make a big mess.
With this in mind, I remembered some of my best memories as a kid was decorating T-shirts and bags at friends birthday parties and VBS. I decided that decorating was one thing my kids could do that fit all of the requirements.
And this was the result!
30 hand made bags for my camp kids to decorate to their hearts content! Now, you may be asking "why didn't you just buy bags?" Good question, let me tell you. One: I don't know how to buy bags in bulk, Two: I paid out of pocket.
I could make 30 bags for about $.60 each or I could buy them for $2. My way was better.
Ok, here is the rundown : )
I used a lightweight canvas type material. that was pretty sturdy.
I tried freezer paper stenciling on the bags, but that failed (I refused to cut out 30 stencils)
Then I tried a universal stencil that I made out of cardboard.
With paint: fail
With marker: WIN
So I stenciled with a marker on all of the bags. (Myeongjin is the name of my school)
Here is a view of the inside... uh... kind of.
I was trying to make these as fast as I could so the technique is not the greatest, but don't judge.
Simple sewn straps.
Used the selvage so that I didn't have to finish the edges.
And how did it go?
THE KIDS LOVED IT!!! YAY!!!
Here are just a few pictures of them working on the bags.
They were so creative and so artistic! And they have something useful and personal to remember the fun they had at English camp!
Thanks for stopping by today!

You are cragee (or however Koreans say crazy). I might steal this idea for winter camp or English club :)
