HURRAY! I finally made a ruffled scarf!!! I have been waiting for ages to make one of these. I attempted to make one when I first got my sewing machine back in December... but it was a total failure.
I decided I needed something less polkadotty and some lighter weight fabric.
So, when I went to the market in JUNE I picked up this fabric. Why on earth didn't I make it sooner. I think I'm in love.
The fabric is really light weight. I didn't want to use elastic thread to ruffle, because I was afraid it would bunch too much. I just wanted a hit of ruffling going on. To make the ruffles I set my tension and thread length to the longest. It turned out perfectly!
I didn't really want to hem all the edges, especially since the fabric was so light weight. I decided to just zigzag along the edges. It left just a little frey, but I'm ok with that. I like the look of it.
I made sure to sew down the middle twice to give it extra strength. We'll see once I put the scarf into use if the thread will hold. I may have to go back and add a fabric strip or ribbon down the center for extra support.
Ok, here is why I love this scarf.
1. It's nice and flowy. Not too hot and not too cold. It will be perfect for late summer/fall
2. The colors go with everything! Brown, blue, green, tan. That is basically my whole wordrobe.
3. Because I gave rather wide sides on the scarf, it kind of spreads out and gives some texture to the whole shoulder region too. I don't particularly like when scarves just hug my neck (although it's really nice in the winter!). I like the full look that this scarf has.
Ok, I guess that's about it. Thanks for stopping by today!!!
Gorgeous scarf! Well done!
