A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

What I Do When I'm Lonely

Sometimes (ok, most of the time), living here is lonely. It's really hard to leave all you're friends and family and move to a new place. It's even harder when you're moving to a new language and culture!  For me, I pretty much only see other foreign friends (who understand my culture) on Sundays at church.

To combat the loneliness, I've made a blogging buddy! Hm... "made" sounds kind of funny. Let's try: My friend and I (who both live in Korea) started a joint blog that only each other can see. It's AWESOME! We are able to talk about stuff that would be weird on our personal/ family blogs and we can do it on our own time! We don't have to set up phone or skype dates.

I also feel really disconnected from some of my really good college friends. My college roommate now lives in China, and our best friend lives in the US. Talk about hard to keep in touch! We have fb chat, and skype, and email, but with the time difference and work schedules, it's just so hard! After being inspired by Abigail over at Shine On Child we decided to do a picture exchange each week. We pick a day and then each person has to send at least one picture of something they did. It has been super fun, and we usually end up sending more than one picture : )   Sometimes we chose to pick "boring" days but it's fun to just see a lazy couch picture of my besties sometimes : )

These are some of the things I've done to stay connected to people (and keep my sanity!)

I'd love it if you shared what you do to keep friend connections! I promise. Everyone who lives overseas is looking for creative ideas to keep in touch : )

  1. I love this post! I think we are in the same boat! We only see foreigners at church on Sundays and my roommate from college is in Guatemala. I know this is not the case for most people, but for our wedding we recorded people talking to us, giving us advice, sharing funny memories, etc. Whenever I get lonely, I pop in the DVD and listen to my friends from America talk about memories we have. It is great to "see" them.

Or I eat chocolate. Probably not the healthiest option!
